Clarification of the misconceptions surrounding Omega-3 and the importance of fatty acids
Omega-3 fatty acids, I need them ! More info on www.fishoilsupplements.eu

MorEPA consists of two very important omega-3 fatty acids; it contains low levels of DHA and high levels of EPA. EPA and DHA are vital for the creation and renewal of cells and for the health of our cells in general. Because our whole body consists of cells, a deficiency of EPA and DHA has a negative effect on all our body parts: our bones, our blood, our organs, skin, hair and our brain.
Proverbially, a healthy mind thrives in a healthy body. It seems that EPA and DHA not only keep the body in optimal condition, they also give us a mental boost for they are the foundation of a healthy emotional balance.

We need EPA as well as DHA!
Research has taught us that a lack of EPA weakens the body's immune system (to fight diseases). A lack of both omega-3 fatty acids (EPA and DHA) endangers one's mental health. This manifests itself in difficulty concentrating, learning problems, poor memory... and it leads directly to an increased risk of developing depression, suicide attempts and ADHD. You should keep in mind however that low levels of EPA and DHA are not the only determining factors responsible for the creation of these disorders typical of our civilization, but they are definitely a very important factor.

EPA and DHA are essential for optimal brain functioning
DHA is an important building block of the brain
DHA is crucial for the healthy development and growth of the brain. The brain of an unborn child goes through a growth spurt during the third trimester of pregnancy, and the first three months after birth, are crucial for the subsequent brain development of the baby. Having sufficient levels of DHA is important in the structure of brain cell membranes. Later on in life, sufficient levels of DHA are necessary to keep cell membranes flexible.
EPA controls the way the brain operates
EPA is a basic material the body uses to manufacture a whole range of essential substances that regulate hormonal balance, immune system functioning, brain functioning, and blood supply to tissues. EPA is essential for the moment-by-moment regulation of brain functioning.

EPA is sometimes more effective than DHA

    * Several studies have indicated that EPA, not DHA, accelerates the healing process of certain conditions such as ADHA, dyslexia, depression, and memory disorders.
    * Conditions such as autoimmune diseases, cardiovascular disease, depression, … are accompanied by inflammatory reactions. EPA, more so than DHA, helps alleviate these inflammations.

What is the best way to increase the level of EPA in my body?

Fish oil is a natural nutritional source that contains EPA and DHA
Nutritional products that are rich in omega-3 are: (half) fatty fish; green leafy vegetables, and certain nuts and seeds (for instance, flax seed).

    * Vegetarian sources only contain the basic omega-3 fatty acid, named alpha-linoleic acid. This is the basic material the body uses to produce EPA and DHA. At least, that is the accepted theory. In practice, however, the body does not convert alpha-linoleic acid to EPA and DHA very effectively; only a small amount of alpha-linoleic acid is converted to EPA and DHA. This is why a direct supply of EPA and DHA is sorely needed.
    * (Half) fatty fish, more so than fish oil, contains low levels of alpha-linoleic acid but high levels of EPA and DHA.

What is the recommended daily dose of EPA?
The recommended daily amount of EPA depends on the results you want to obtain to alleviate your specific problems and conditions.

    * The standard dose to maintain optimal health is 500 mg per day.
    * For people suffering from dyslexia and dyspraxia, 500 mg per day is sufficient.
    * For those suffering from ADHD, a dose with a 500mg to a 1g is recommended.

In order to take in the recommended standard dose of EPA, you should eat 230 g of fatty fish daily or 860 g of half-fatty fish. That's not a very practical solution. Because fresh fish contains high levels of PCB's, dioxins, organochlorine pesticides and heavy metals, a carefully selected fish oil supplement may be a much better

The body cannot generate EPA and DHA by itself. It needs to derive the materials necessary to produce EPA and DHA from a diet that is rich in omega-3. Unfortunately, a typical Western diet lacks omega-3 fatty acids. That has not always been the case. Historically, we have evolved from a diet that contained approximately as much omega-6 as omega-3 fatty acids. However, our current diet contains approximately twenty times more omega-6 than omega-3 fatty acids. Commonly used vegetable based oils (corn oil, sunflower oil,...) and processed foods consist almost exclusively of omega-6 fatty acids and hardly any omega-3 fatty acids. Therefore, taking EPA and DHA supplements is a conscious choice you can make to achieve a balance between omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids.

Complement your intake of vegetarian nutritional products that are rich in omega-3 (for instance, flax seed oil) with a carefully selected daily supplement of EPA or DHA (fish oil supplement).
Only by taking a daily fish oil supplement of superior pharmacological purity, you can be assured that your body receives a sufficient and healthy (i.e. pure) dose of EPA and DHA.

MorEPA fish oil capsules contain EPA and DHA from South-Pacific deep-sea fish. Only superior pharmacological-grade fish oil is used in MorEPA. This is unique in Europe. MorEPA is an ideal supplement for those who need a maximal dose of EPA. MorEPA contains three times more EPA than the average fish oil supplement that is on the market today.

Ordinary fish oil consists of 30% (sometimes only 15%) of omega-3 fatty acids that are valuable and of 70% of undesirable fat (a portion of which is saturated fat). In other words, fish oil consists primarily of unnecessary fatty acids (fatty acids that are different from omega-3 fatty acids). These undesirable fatty acids add to your caloric intake; they do not improve your health and may even cause negative side effects.

The range of products containing MorEPA consists of at least 75% and up to 95% of omega-3 fatty acids.
The range of MorEPA products consists of the following highly concentrated EPA supplements, reinforced with antioxidants that stabilize fatty acids:

    * MorEPA softgel capsules consist of 75% of omega-3 fatty acids (approximately 58% EPA, approximately 8% DHA, lemon flavour)
    * MorEPA-Mini softgel capsules consist of 75% omega-3 fatty acids (approximately 58% EPA, approximately 8% DHA, natural strawberry flavour)
    * PlusEPA capsules consist of minimally 95% omega-3 fatty acids (approximately 90% EPA, maximally 1% DHA, neutral taste, slower absorption rate)

When you take a daily dose of MorEPA, you avoid the unnecessary fats that are present in ordinary fish oil. Moreover, one single capsule of MorEPA gives you the daily recommended amount of EPA/DHA. Instead of taking three to five regular fish oil capsules, you only have to take one capsule of MorEPA.

Let me tell you a trick to differentiate highly concentrated fish oils of pharmacological-grade purity from regular fish oils: place the fish oil capsule in the freezer. The content of the highly concentrated fish oil capsule will not freeze. However, the capsule containing regular fish oil will freeze because the undesirable saturated fats become solid.

Should children take a daily dose of MorEPA?

Definitely.

In that case, you would choose for MorEPA-Mini. MorEPA-Mini is especially designed for children. MorEPA-Mini comes in smaller, easy-to-swallow capsules. Moreover, the level of EPA in MorEPA-Mini has been lowered to approximately 245 mg/capsule.

Even though omega-3 supplements are, in general, good for one's health, all supplements do not have the same quality and all of them are not equally effective in contributing to one's emotional balance. An independent testing organization assessed the quality of fish oil supplements and reached the following distressing conclusions:

    * More than one brand out of four does not contain the ingredient levels that are mentioned on the label.
    * The EPA/DHA ratio is almost always lower than 4/1 (sometimes even 1.5/1). We know that EPA contributes to a healthy emotional balance and that DHA has much less of an impact on positive emotions. Therefore, supplements with a high a ratio of EPA, in comparison to DHA, are better for one's state of mind. In studies with dyslexia patients at Oxford University, supplements with an EPA/DHA ratio of at least 5/1 are used.
    * Certain products are contaminated with poisonous substances such as mercury, PCB's, dioxins or DDT (an organochlorine pesticide) that are present in the polluted aquatic environment where fish live.
